NBC Universal will launch, on December 12, in Romania, the channel TV Movies 24, said Colin McLeod, Commercial Director within Sparrowhawk Media, part of NBC Universal Global Networks, in the opening of edition XII of the Cable Communications Convention.
Colin Leot announced that after Hallmark and Kids Co, NBC Universal will also launch Movies 24 in Romania, on December 12.
Leot said that the network is interested in digital services and pay-per-view television and in the manner the company guides its income. He added that they are investing a great deal in the Romanian market, considering it an incredibly dynamic market for them in his view, the most dynamic markets are Poland and Romania, where there will be large investments in the next two years.
Movies 24 is a television station broadcasting movies specially made for television, including several genres - romance, thriller, crime, comedy and erotica. The channel broadcasts nonstop.
The channel belongs to Sparrowhawk Media – which owns the non-American version of Hallmark Channel – and broadcasts movies from the largest and best studios, such as Sony, MGM, Paramount, Fireworks and Fox.
NBC Universal is a media and entertainment company, where General Electric holds a 80% stake and Vivendi holds 20% of shares. The group includes the channels CNBC, Sci-Fi Channel, 13th Street and Universal Channel.
In late August, NBC Universal announced the takeover of Sparrowhawk Media, owner of the international Hallmark channel (acquired in 2005) and the channels Movies 24 and KidsCo, within an operation evaluated at $350 million. Hallmark is broadcast in 152 states in Europe, Africa, Latin America, Asia and the Middle East. On this occasion, the group expressed the intention to expand, on an international level, the broadcast of Movies 24, which was recently launched in Great Britain.
The president-general director of NBC Universal, Jeff Zucker, announced, in early 2007, that he intends to double, in the following years, the range of activity of his group on the cable television channel sector, broadcasting in more countries.
