Very strong quarterly results have taken BSkyB to the brink of claiming 10 million subscribers for its satellite TV services.
For the quarter ended 30 September 2010, BSkyB increased its revenues by 15%, with strong growth in both subscriptions and advertising. Operating profit climbed by 25% to £255 million.
In the period, BSkyB recorded a net customer growth of 96,000 to reach 9.956 million households within the UK. In addition the DTH provider posed a record net product growth of 989,000, up 12% on the prior year with net additional Q1 product sales up 13% to 893,000.
In all, 2.3 million of BSkyB’s customers now take all three of TV, broadband and telephony services, a rise of 39%. Standout performances were realised in HD with net additions of 215,000 to reach 3.2 million customers. Over 50 HD channels are being offered by Sky.
