Post --SOLVED-- Boot from ext USB HD

OBS! SOLVED Solution at the bottom.
I tryed this down below and almost everything went OK exept for one thing.....as usual.

I installed E2 on sda2 who is an ext2 and it works fine (just my mbox that freezes) but my sda4 who is vfat and was intended for my recordings, not so good. I named everything after the guide on page 1.

On sda4 i created mapps movie, video, pictures and music and copy some stuff in to them. Now when i boot into my E2 and go to mediaplayer or dvdplayer it cant find my movie, video and so on.

In mediaplayer i see 6 mapps, sda, sda1, sda2, sda3, sda4, internal flash. The only map i can browse is internal flash, if i click on the others nothing happens.

It all looks fine when i boot to flash and use KCC to look at "expert", the partitions are all there.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Translated from German to English with google translate :
So here I look at the updated instructions for how to use only the external drive with both BA's image as well as 2 different
Enigma2 versions directly from the hard drive can boot. At the same time, the drive continues even recording media so that you
Kathi recordings of the problem on every PC on Winbugs can play.
    Requirements:
In the flash of a software Kathi with Second bootloader, either the All in One original 1:06 or the All in One AAF2.0d depending on Boxtyp 1W
or 14W-version or the All in One Package 2.0 AAF 2.0e (found in the database here on the board)
On the PC installed 2.0b KCC or the latest 2.1 version (in the corresponding All in One package)
Network settings in the 1.06 / 2.0d or 2.0e and KCC (see also AAF HowTo's)
FTP server with KCC in the 1.06 / 2.0d or 2.0e installed
An ext. USB 2.0 hard drive by Kathi accepted
If already the 2nd boot loader in KCC activated, these previously precaution first disable
Kathi and PC via crossover cable connected
    Preparations:
the drive directly with Kathi in the menu / service menu / USB device management completely FAT32 format. Existing recordings
prior to the course with the PC or directly to a Kathi 2.Festplatte copy, because all the data from the hard drive be erased!
Now we close the disk to the PC and run Control Panel / Administration / Computer Management Disk Management
    off.
In the right pane should now eure ext. Hard drive partition as the only path.
Now click the mouse on the partition and then right-click menu and select Delete Partition.
Then again with the right mouse button menu in the new partition. It seems another menu in which the drive letter and the
Total capacity of the disk is proposed. Here you create a new primary partition and give it a size about 500 megabytes. In
next FAT32 partition menu select and format as a label XBA enter. Now back in the right pane on the remaining
Partition part with the right mouse button and another primary partition with 500 MB create. It will be a drive letter
suggested we maintain. In the next menu choose again with FAT32 format, and give a volume name Enigma1
and format the new partition. The same thing again and then we shall designate the 3.Partition Enigma2. With the rest
available capacity (important unpartitioned areas please do not leave blank), we now create the 4.Partition as host volume.
Again the proposed drive letter, and then, however, as larger hard drives only NTFS is proposed
    Partition not specify format.
Now you can leave the Disk Management and now has the largest so far has not even partition formatted with FAT32
formatted. This leads to your Start / Run / cmd in the Windows command line. Depending on where your program
fat32format on your PC you are using cd .. into the appropriate directory and then fat32format: Enter X (X = LW-point
your host partition). The successful format will be displayed and your hard drive is now divided into 4 primary FAT32 formatted
Partitions, which are now at work on a PC than 4 local disks are displayed. Use the right mouse button to click on the still
unnamed drive and designate it with the host (important for the partition as the first available recording source, because the
Kathrein software the devices listed alphabetically). Then created in the root of this drive even though the 3 folder with the
Name video + movie + picture (for Enigma2) and copied to test you in Enigma2 times from the PC into the appropriate folder a few
    MP3's, JPG's and the like.
Now you will Kathi from flash (not infected BA-stick) and hang your hard drive to one of the rear USB ports. Then KCC
start, if not already done in Settings / FTP server and then execute necessarily even in settings
Connection test. If the network settings are correct then this should pings, Telnet, FTPConnect and FTPLogin ok.
    appear.
Now go into your KCC / experts, and it should then your hard drive as
    dev / sda
    dev/sda1 tmp / usb / XBA (1-1)
    dev/sda2 tmp/usb/Enigma1 (1-2)
    dev/sda3 tmp/usb/Enigma2 (1-3)
    dev/sda4 tmp / usb / host (1-4) are displayed.
Now with the mouse dev/sda2 mark, right-click menu and select Create EXT2 file system. As the volume name again
Enigma1 enter the notice and all data will be erased with ok. Confirm. The same step, then repeat with the partition
dev/sda3 and give a volume label Enigma2 On. Since the two partitions to be unmounted, quit now, we first KCC
Kathi and the boot from the new Flash. After booting again, and then KCC should KCC experts particionisanje displayed
Picture1 like to be in the file attachment.
So these were the steps to prepare the hard disk and now it's almost exactly like it with a USB stick's work to install
BA / boot menu / BA and Enigma2 images directly onto the hard disk.
This in KCC / Barry Allen go, it seems the only choice BA, because the Kathi yes from flash started.
Click now to install and BA in Menue elect from BA over the network (Note: Stick into multiple partitions may
Now of course not marked). Now BA is on the network to the disk in the partition XBA (1-2) and also to Kathi installed.
Now I recommend Kathi again from flash to boot and then install the boot menu (otherwise sometimes leads to a
    KCC error message).
Now you can completely normal by KCC your images to BA-XBA (1-1) to install and set up again. (e.g., via download from the server or from
already available on the PC Image.tar.gz)
For the installation of up to 2 Enigma versions are the 2nd and 3 Partition on the hard drive planned. KCC is now in the "image partition
Install and then selects as the AllinOne package e2_Build_210_AAF_MOD_1.0 the 1.0 or the 2.0 package AllinOne the
tdt_rev_254_aaf_mod_2.0 and in the following window now strictly partition sda2 or sda3 select / gateway and server IPs
    correctly, and then install Enigma.
So then we are almost ready, only one is still missing, namely necessarily now before the first start of the 2nd disk bootloader
by KCC activate. In KCC Barry Allen, it should be similar to picture2 and KCC SystemInfo Picture3 like to look.
Now you can restart your Kathi and boat Menue both the BA-Enigma2 images as well as directly from the hard disk. Works
I tested with all 3 external hard drives correctly. Enigma is much faster and more stable than from the USB stick booted.
Also, the recording is used in the BA-image as well as Enigma2 (hard drive was immediately detected) and has been functioning well
EPG recordings and subsequent shutdown of Kathi in standby for me without any problems.
Note: with WindoofVista can be found in the Computer Management unfortunately only 3 primary partitions. Ich hab mal gegoogelt and
free EaseUs Partition Manager Home Edition "found on the Web. This can also WindoofVista 4 primary partitions.
Here is the link to download. With the Professional Edition (there's only a demo) can be easily even existing
The hard disk partitions without losing data to change. The Partition Manager supports according to the manufacturer to 800 GB of hard disk size.
I do, however, pointed out that before the use of partitioning software, the existing data is always secure
should. A little caution is the use of such programs is always better than data loss. It is therefore not of me
Responsibility if you have any information you or your HDD destroyed. Everyone makes his own risk!
Furthermore, I ask questions about this partitioning tool here on the board in sight. Who does not know what you do with it should be
should steer clear of it and prefer the previous DAU-use guide!
So then I wish you a lot of fun experimenting and look forward to your continued feedback. The vexing issue of what Stick
works or does not work should be so in the past. This should work with any external USB 2.0 hard drive from Kathi
recognized it. I can guarantee you, but do not enter!
Greetings to everyone on the board

PS: I have to print out the old and the new instructions as PDF-File added.
And people .... there is at the bottom of each page on the board the "issue rate" and auch nen button Thanks for any help!
    --------------------------------------------------------------

    dev/sda
    dev/sda1 tmp/usb/XBA (1-1)
    dev/sda2 tmp/usb/Enigma1 (1-2)
    dev/sda3 tmp/usb/Enigma2 (1-3)

    neotioncrack

This is the solution for my problem, found on this forum in another thred.

    I have a hdd 500 GB with partition :
    sda1 fat32
    sda2 with label XBA -BA
    sda3 with label XSYS2 - enigma2
    sda4 with label XSYS3 - for fatload
If i want to see fat32 partition , in telent, do this command :
    mount /dev/sda1 /media/hdd
after this with file manager i can see fat32 partition.
    maybe this help you.

Default Re: Boot from ext USB HD

The boot from ext USB HD does not work that well, it works for a while and then it dies and hard reboot is a must. USB-Stick works much better, now i just have a couple of question.

The guide goes "in KCC now with the mouse dev/sda2 mark, right-click menu and select Create EXT2 file system, and same with sda3".

Does zildans image ver1.1 works better if its on ext3 instead of ext2 or does it not matter?

The partition sda4 for recording and stuff is on a 450gb fat32, i read somewere that zildans image wants it to be ext3, any ideas about that? Does the image recognise the harddisc if it is an ext3?

    @zazabraza

My experience is that all e2 images are not 100% stable, specially on HD channels, but on the harddisk, it works much better than on the USB. I have two Kathreins and several USB sticks. So try again as per the german instructions.
